Love this place, always great short term exhibitions. Currently doing Street Photographers. Highly recommend this one!
One street up from Circular Quay, the Museum of Sydney is well laid out, airy and interesting and tells you the history of Sydney. It has numerous exhibits where you lift, scratch or find things so that keeps you interested and occupied. I was lucky because the street photography exhibition was on and that was fascinating... so interesting to see everyday people and how they dressed and walked all those years ago.
Good museum with a lot to absorb. Need a few visits to fully grasp the essentials. The aboriginal section is also quite detailed and informative. Not far from Circular Quay.
As one of the most famous cities in Australia, I was expecting a more robust display at the Museum of Sydney. The two levels (excluding ground floor) whilst providing a somewhat interesting record of Sydney's early history left me wanting more. The admission price ($12 for adults) was too generous for a museum with such little to offer.
For a small museum it has a great amount of historical stories and artifacts. The demolished Sydney exhibition showed me an insight I never knew about Sydney. I wish they would make that a permanent feature and expand the stories to include the old outer suburbs too. Highly recommend a visit.
