You're pretty much guaranteed to have items in your checked luggage stolen by ground staff - especially if you're arriving via the international terminal.
The terminal is much better since its refurbishment over the last few years. Plenty of duty free shopping including designer brands. Security checks out of the country go smoothly but arriving is a nightmare - there customs area is too small and hellish when a few A380s arrive at the same time.
The customs border officials have to be the biggest spastics I have ever seen in my life. They don't smile, they don't help or have any interest in questions asked. When you come back from holiday this is the last thing you want to deal with.
Departure is decent a little small but still OK, but would recommend more things to do for kids other than shopping. While arrival is not the best as the ceilings are low and stuffy.
Great airport. Spacious and unusual. The visit is well ventilated. There are many shops and cafes. Airport staff can easily inform on any issue. Everything is organized at a good level. From the airport it is easy to get to the city. Nearby is the main railway station. Australia pleases. Now everyone here has a festive mood.
